With limited staff and even less resources, Johnstown found its economic development efforts floundering in the past. Approximately four years ago the Licking County Commissioners, Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority and Licking County Chamber of Commerce partnered to start a front-door organization called GROW Licking County Community Improvement Corporation. It was the first time this type of effort was attempted in our County. I was lucky enough to be on ground floor as this organization was built. I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions the entire County has made to facilitate a regional approach to economic development. The success of the organization is well documented in many publications including the Newark Advocate. Years later, the newest staff member, Nate Strum, has taken over as Economic Development Director and is taking GROW Licking County to the next level. Stay tuned as Johnstown continues to grow with the help of GROW Licking County and all community partners. Collaboration is paramount if a community is to thrive.
